Results of By-Polls
An analysis of results of recently held by-elections to four Lok Sabha seats and six seats for state-assemblies in several states reveals that voters voted in name of political parties rather than candidates when a candidate in Gujarat notorious for taking out revolver at a toll-plaza emerged victorious. These results should be taken as warning for such candidates being victorious in forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Even notorious candidates with criminal record may again find place in next Lok Sabha because of getting victorious by their muscle and money power. Unfortunately at times, political parties compete for giving tickets to counter opposite candidate with criminal record by another candidate with 'better' criminal record.

Ruling party at the centre should also take these results as warning-signal for next general elections, and should rather please voters by taking lead for implementing Election Commission's long-pending proposal to put option of 'None-To-Vote' on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Metro Workers Protest
Workers of Delhi metro protested for their rights despite prohibitory order promulgated under section 144 at the Metro Bhavan. Workers under the banner of Delhi Metro Rail Kaamgaar Union (DMRKU), organised the protest against the unreasonable termination of 250 workers by the Metro Mangement which would be effective from 1 June. The workers tried to submit a memorandum declaring their demands but the officers at the Metro Bhavan refused to accept their memorandum. Having failed to meet the authorities workers finally submitted their memorandum through registered post to the Delhi Metro superintendent Mangu Singh.
The contract of the Tring company that does the work of giving Tokens at metro ends on 1 June, 2013, after which DMRC should take the responsibility of these workers. In Delhi Metro the minimum wage including ESI, PF etc fixed by the Government has not been implemented despite repeated representations. The main demands enlisted in the memorandum are the reinstatement of all the workers terminated by the contractor company Tring Metro should reinstate the workers even after the tender of the company working on contract ends, implementation of Contract Labour Act (regularisation and abolition), 1970 ensuring absorption of workers in permanent category and strict abherence to Labour Laws.
